A lot happens during the first visit. most of the time the patient and doctor are meeting face to face for the first time. There is a lot of information exchanged.
The main goal at this time is for the patient to inform the doctor of all the details associated with their injury and for the doctor to cross reference all the information (history, evaluation, palpation) in order to develop a diagnosis and treatment plan in order to help the patient in the best way possible.
There is only so much we can accomplish in one day without rushing.
Are you in the right place?
First and foremost, we need to make sure that you are in the right place at the right time. When you walk into our office, we have no idea if we are going to be able to fix your problem or not.
We need a lot more information in order to figure out what the next best step is for you. Many patients that come to see us will be experiencing Chiropractic treatment for the first time.
They have no idea what to expect, what we are capable doing, or how we are going to do just that.
This initial visit is set up to help answer all those questions and most importantly make sure you are in the right place and the right time.
Time / Efficiency
The time it takes us to go through the steps outlined above is approximately 20 minutes for a typical case. This is after the initial intake forms are taken care of and you are back with the doctor.
We understand 20 minutes is not a long time and that we could schedule longer, but that would not be in your best interest or the best interest of our other patients.
In order to keep the office flowing along, we schedule 10-20 minutes appointments. What this accomplishes is a steady availability in our schedule.
This is one way in which we keep that availability open.
If we were to schedule longer appointments, we wouldn’t be able to get as many people in for treatment, and you would be waiting weeks to get into our office like less efficient Doctor’s offices.
It is very important to the success of your treatment to establish an accurate diagnosis.
By not treating on the first visit, we can concentrate all our attention to diagnosing the problem and establishing the best treatment plan for you.
It is also very important to us that you understand what is wrong and how we are going to fix it.
So we concentrate on this patient education during the end of the first visit to make sure we are all on the same page.
The majority of the time we are able to get you in for your first treatment within a day or two of your initial visit.
If you are really in a hurry you are welcome to make a follow-up appointment along with your initial visit on back to back days in order to make sure you get in and get on the road to feeling better as fast as possible.
